2 months old...take two

Wait a minute...aren't they 3 1/2 months old? Not according to their "adjusted age". When you have preemies, doctors assess their growth and development based on their "adjusted age" which is how old they would be if they had been born at full term/their due date. Since my due date was January 19th, that makes them 2 months old yesterday. In some ways they are far more advanced developmentally than your average 2 month old and the boys' size is that of a 3 1/2 month old (in fact they are in the 95th percentile for weight as compared to term babies!), but in other ways they are just like 2 month old babies and little Kate is the size of a small 2 month old. I find this really frustrating that we always have to subtract 6 weeks of hard work off of their age and that we have to wait that much longer to meet certain developmental milestones. Whenever I ask questions like "When can they start solid foods?" or "When will they sleep through the night?", it's always X number of months...from your due date. So sometimes it seems like we are not gaining any ground and it is taking forever for them to mature, but we will keep pluggin' along and try to enjoy this phase of their lives.
