My not-so-little babies are now TWO YEARS OLD!!!
I know they technically aren't babies any more, but they will always be my little babies no matter how old they get.
My eyes tear up whenever I think about how grown up they are getting and how much has happened in the last two years.
While the days seem long at times, the years are flying by at lightning speed.
While the days seem long at times, the years are flying by at lightning speed.
I look back at pictures of them when they were little babies and I think,
My gosh, I don't even remember their time as babies.
Was I in too big of a rush to just get to the next phase of their lives?
Therefore, amidst the fit-throwing, diaper changing, preparing and cleaning up after meals, a losing battle of keeping the house clean, and all of the mayhem that surrounds having multiple toddlers,
I am trying to sit back and cherish each moment I get to spend with my kids.
I want to remember their laughter,
how messy they get when they are trying to feed themselves,
their sloppy kisses and big bear hugs,
all three of them trying to squeeze onto my lap at the same time while we read books together,
how excited they get over the smallest things (wheels, lights, balloons),
how they call out for "Mommy" whenever they are hurt, scared, tired, need help, or just want to be cuddled,
and even their exasperating attempts to be independent.
I don't want to forget ANY of it.

Anyways, the kids had a super fun birthday weekend.
On their actual birthday, we took cookies shaped like the number two to preschool to share with our school pals.
Everyone sang Happy Birthday to them, but I don't think they had any idea why people were singing to them. They were just happy to get a cookie for snack :)
That evening, we took the kids to Red Robin for a birthday dinner, along with Aunt Allison.
Back at home, they got to open birthday presents from Mom and Dad and Aunt Allison.
It was fun to see them actually open their own presents this year and get excited about the gifts they received.
Since they are in love with Sesame Street, we ordered them hand-made Sesame Street character hats for their birthday.
Kate got an Abby Cadabby hat, which she loved...can you tell by the look on her face in the above picture!?

Unfortunately we learned the hard way that when you have kids that are the same age, it is wise to get them gifts that are the same. Otherwise, fighting is sure to ensue, ruining the fun of opening gifts.
We got Reece a small garbage truck that makes truck noises.
Apparently we should have gotten three as they spent the rest of the evening screaming, hitting, yelling, crying, chasing each other, and playing tug-of-war over the truck, thus forsaking all other gifts.
The next day, I made the kids one of their favorite breakfasts, juicy pancakes (aka German pancakes).
The first thing they asked for when they got up was their new hats and the garbage truck.
As one of their birthday gifts, I made the kids their own Sesame Street t-shirts, personalized with their names on the back.
I also made Kate a tutu so she could be more like Abby Cadabby.
Grandma Sue came over for lunch and brought the kids chicken nuggets from McDonald's and more presents.
After a much-needed nap, it was party time (Sesame Street themed, of course)!
Aunt Allison surprised the kids with some specially ordered, super-cute
Elmo, Big Bird, and Cookie Monster cupcakes.

MORE PRESENTS!!
Like I said earlier, we learned the hard way that our kids will fight when they want a gift that their sibling received
and so...
when Chase opened his Cozy Coupe police car from Aunt Amy and Uncle Frank,
the chaos of two fighting boys began.
They fought
and fought
and fought
and created quite an embarrassing scene.
Meanwhile, Kate was oblivious to what her brothers were up to and kept opening her presents.
She even started opening up the boys' gifts for them.
Eventually the cozy coupe car had to be taken away so that the fighting would stop.
(It is still sitting in the garage because they cannot contain their fighting when it comes out to play. Reece will be getting his own car for Christmas so that Chase can finally enjoy his birthday present in peace.)
And then it was time for the much-anticipated cupcakes!!
Happy birthday, big kids!
We are looking forward to what the next year has in store for us and treasuring each step along the way :)

So many thoughts come to mind: Erin, you have learned early on the lesson that they do indeed grow up so fast!! (Just not the comment to make when they are misbehaving, you are tired, etc., relatives and friends!)
These three exceptional creations of God will remmeber that they had the best Mommie ever!! (and the finest of Daddies!)
On my gosh, this is amazing. I love their shirts and hats! Then all the decorations, cookies and cupcakes? Adorable. I got sad when I read what you wrote at the top. I feel the same way about Nolan! Happy two years to your babies and to you and your husband!
