Potty Training.
Sounds simple enough.
But I'm learning that it's way easier said than done.
Especially when you have three.
And you have no idea what you are doing.
According to all of the books I've read, Kate's showing all the signs of readiness.
The boys, not so much.
So I thought I'd keep it simple and just start with Kate.
We bought ONE little potty chair.
I must've had a memory lapse at the time.
My kids don't share well, especially when it's something new and different.
My thinking was that there aren't multiple toilets in most bathrooms, so they need to get used to waiting for their turn to use the potty anyways.
My bad.
Waiting in a toddler's world includes screaming, crying, pushing, shoving, hitting, and throwing yourself on the floor. There is no mine and yours, there's only MINE.
We put the little potty chair in the bathroom on the main floor and they LOVED it.
So much so that they fought and fought and fought over it.
For two days.
After that no one wanted to sit on it.
In fact, asking them to sit on it resulted in them yelling "NO!!" and throwing a tantrum.
Keep in mind, all I was asking was for them to sit on it with their pants ON.
Nothing scary about that.
So I moved the potty chair out into the playroom so they would associate it with fun.
I think they're having a little too much fun with it though.
They like to close the lid and use it as a stool to jump over the back of the couch.
It's great fun and results in lots of happy shrieks and laughing.
Until someone ends up crying
because again, it's become the most coveted thing in the house.
They ALL want to sit on it at the same time (or use it as a jumping platform).
So we're practicing taking turns. But there's a slow learning curve and toddlers are impatient :)
So anyways, that's where we are in potty training.
Practicing sitting on the toilet several times a day with pants on (without throwing a fit or fighting for a turn).
Kate has just started to ask to sit on it with her diaper off and so she practices that every time I change her diaper.
The boys are terrified of sitting on it naked.
We'll get there someday.
I have to keep reminding myself,
Rome wasn't built in a day
and you can't potty train triplets in a week.

YAY ! Go kate! She looks like a big girl sitting on the pot. Just like her mom.
Erin, I'm sure you're familiar with the Toddler's Rules of Possession:
1. If I like it, it’s mine.
2. If it’s in my hand, it’s mine.
3. If I can take it from you, it’s mine.
4. If I had it a little while ago, it’s mine.
5. If it’s mine, it must NEVER appear to be yours in anyway.
6. If I’m doing or building something, all the pieces are mine.
7. If it looks just like mine, it is mine.
8. If I saw it first, it’s mine.
9. If you are playing with something and you put it down, it automatically becomes mine.
10. If it’s broken, it’s yours.
Good luck with the potty training!
Those pictures are hilarious! They look so cute (and big) sitting on the potty. Good luck! We’ve tried a little with Nolan. He wants to go on the potty all the time, but can’t get anything to come out when he sits down. We’re giving him a break for a month and then trying again. What a pain!
