Easter Debut

We've been out in public several times before Easter (Babies R Us, Costco, the Marysville Outlet Mall), but these places were all filled with strangers and we did not allow anyone to touch or hardly even stop to look at our babies (even though we draw crowds of on-lookers). Since having these little ones I have become very protective, quite the germ-a-phobe and have a cow if anyone tries to touch them without using antibacterial soap or sanitizer first. The doctor says cold and flu season is officially over and the babies are strong enough to go into public now, but as you can imagine, I was pretty anxious about taking them to the Easter Sunday church service for the first time anyways. Our church is filled with adoring people who have been praying for us relentlessly throughout all of our struggles and we were excited for everyone to finally meet our triplets and see them in their adorable Easter outfits, but on the other hand I was filled with anxiety about germs and the babies throwing temper tantrums during the service (the day before we had gone out to lunch and Kate threw a monster fit at the restaurant, so we were quite apprehensive about taking her to church!).

Jacob's dad (Pastor Bill) announced our return to church and we stood and showed off the babies to the church full of people. Everyone oohed and ahhed and we were very proud parents. Chase lasted about 5 minutes into the service and then screamed his pterodactyl scream just as it became silent when a song ended, so he was the first to exit and go sit with Grandma in the cry room. Kate quickly joined Chase in the cry room after lasting another 5 minutes when she then began squawking, but thankfully it was during a song so no one heard her. Reece made it the longest on Daddy's lap, but then became agitated and Jacob quietly snuck him out of the sanctuary to join the rest of us. So the 6 of us spent the entire service crammed in a tiny dark room looking through the sound-proof glass and listening to the sermon. When the last song begun we re-entered the sanctuary and it seemed like everyone in the whole church wanted to get a look at these beautiful babies and a line of admirers soon formed. It was quite overwhelming, but we were happy that everyone finally got to see them and to know that we have so much love and support from our church family.

We then went to Grandma and Grandpa's house for dinner and by this point, the kids were done. They had not gotten their morning nap and were experiencing extreme over-stimulation. Chase threw a fit like I have never heard him throw and we could do nothing to calm him down until he finally became so exhausted that he fell asleep. Kate also threw a gigantic fit (nothing new for her though) and Reece was pretty agitated as well. They did not take much of an afternoon nap at Grandma and Grandpa's, so when we finally arrived home, they were exhausted, way over-stimulated and threw fits nonstop until they went to bed for the night. Jacob and I were exhausted ourselves and frustrated beyond belief.

The kids were absolutely adorable in their Easter outfits, we are grateful for the reason for the Easter holiday, we had great company and ate a great meal at Grandma and Grandpa's house, but overall, it was not a fun day for us.

How fun to show off your adorable kids. But how frustrating that it was such a streeful day. Same thing happened to me. I made my first Easter dinner for Kevin's family. We had everything on the table, I battled with one kid and was trying to feed another. Everyone was eating and I still had nothing on my plate. Then I had to get up from the table to put another kid to bed, then finally got to eat (cold) food. (It was good though.)

We just have to keep this in perspective, this too shall pass. Our lives are not going to be in this phase forever. Some things will get better (and others won't, huh?)
