Oh blessed nap time. How a mother loves thee.
Our kids still take 2 naps (thank goodness!), one in the morning and one in the afternoon. The morning one is only about an hour and the afternoon one is about and hour and a half (I wish it was longer!).
We keep them on a pretty strict nap schedule. I firmly believe that kids thrive with routines and predictability and that a well-rested child is a happy child (usually). We have had the same schedule with them for as long as I can remember and they do really well with it.
They also go to bed pretty early (6:30-7:00) and sleep until about 7:00 in the morning. I think an early bedtime is really good for kids and it's also really nice that Jacob and I get some alone time in the evenings.
Some of the things that I think have helped the kids with sleeping are
the cordless room darkening shades we put up so that it's always dark in their rooms,
white noise makers in their rooms to block out other noises (like a crying sibling),
having them in separate rooms,
and giving them each a comfort item so that if they wake up, they have something to comfort themselves.
I dread the day that naps are no more.
Thankfully, that's a long ways off!
